How to open Kodak No.3 and No.3A's

(also applies to No.1 Autographic Jr)

Although on these two examples the release button can be seen, often, on later models, it's hidden under the leather, which is why owners can't figure out how to open it.

If it's hidden: look for a circular depression in the same location as those above.

Holding it with front facing you, flip up the stand (i.e. with 'Kodak' on it).

Press the release button with your thumb while, at the same time, using the stand to pull down the door.

Pull out the lens assembly until it clicks into place.

These were made for 30 years with, its said, 27 different lens/shutter combinations so, if selling it, its essential to open it to take a close-up photo of the front so that buyers can see which one it is.

In this close-up we can see how the button pushes the bar to operate the release catch.
